2006 Otter Creek Scramble
(Otter Creek, KY) - Beth Sommers (31, Louisville) and Brandon Jessop (27, Cincinnati) earned the top honors Sunday in the inaugural race of the 2006 Scramble® Series at Otter Creek, Kentucky. Local girl Sommers blazed past the competition at 54 minutes. She was the sole female to complete the race in less than an hour. Following her was another Louisville local, Jennifer Zehnder, 36, in a time of 43 minutes.
In the men's race Jessop hit the finish line a solid five minutes ahead of second-place winner Scott Lajoie (35, Louisville) who won the male 30-39 age group.
The XTERRA Scramble® Otter Creek definitely lived up to its promise of being "Dirty, Dusty, Muddy and Gutsy!" With the sun shining bright and the ground blanketed in sticky mud, 75 plus athletes conquered the course. The contrast of vivid white smiles and bodies drenched brown in mud is a typical picture at an XTERRA Scramble event. Some athletes embellished the theme and engaged in an old fashioned slip-and-slide in the mud as they crossed the finish line.
This is the first of ten races in the 2006 Ohio Valley Series, if you missed this one, there are plenty more to hit up. Check the Scrambles schedule for dates and locations.
