(originally published in XTERRA Beat 2002)

Name: Kalyn Jennifer English
Birthplace: Burbank, CA
Residence: Canyon Country, CA
Nickname: KK
Occupation: 8th grade student

What is your background in competitive athletics?
Started playing softball at age six. Got bored playing short stop, and started playing AYSO soccer. Discovered cross country running and fell in love with it.

A collision on the soccer field tore both my ACL and lateral meniscus. Doctors said take a break from soccer and running. So I started swimming and biking, which led to my love for triathlon.

What accomplishments are you most proud of?
I am proud that I can remain competitive in sports and still maintain a 4.0 GPA. I have been in the honor society the entire time I have been in junior high school.

What is your XTERRA racing goal for 2002?
To place 1st in my age group and not come in last overall female. (UPDATE: - As the youngest competitor in Points Series Race #2 Dam Sprint Mountain Bike Triathlon, Kalyn finished first in her age group in 1:24:29)

What is your next big challenge?
High school
