Scramblers Follow Olympic Trails Near AtlantaXTERRA is a name associated with worldwide adventure, extreme multi-sport events and challenges that touch the soul of every participating athlete. XTERRA is now bringing that same spirit to Atlanta on Sunday, November 20, 2005 at 8:30 a.m. at the Georgia International Horse Park. The XTERRA® Trail Run Scramble Series offers "do-able adventures" for runners looking for the challenge only nature and XTERRA can offer -leaping over rocks and roots, climbing hills and trails, and running through creeks and ravines. A SCRAMBLE is a twisting, turning escape from pounding the pavement. A SCRAMBLE is fun! It's not your ordinary weekend run. XTERRA is an off-the-wall, in-your-face challenge that puts nature at the forefront and tests your determination and endurance. Runners will have the option of participating in a 5k event, perfect for those first timers taking on an off road experience, or the 10k for those looking to up their challenge. The 5k will start at 8:30 a.m. with the 10k participants beginning at 9:00 a.m. at the Steeplechase field, approximately 2 miles from Centennial Olympic Parkway at the Georgia International Horse Park in Conyers. "The course provides a different running experience for all of the participants," noted race director Dave Johnson. "Running in an XTERRA Scramble really gives a new edge to a run. It takes you to the next level of fun and adventure, challenging your mind and body. It's hard to describe, something better felt from the experience - and experiencing it on parts of the 1996 Olympic Mountain Bike and Equestrian trails makes it even better." Registration is $35.00 and is available by emailing eventsdj@aol.com or on race day from 7:00 - 8:15 a.m. at the Georgia International Horse Park. Awards will be given to the top three men and women each age category: 14 & under, 15 - 19, 20 - 29, 30 - 39, 40 - 49, 50 59 or 60 - 69 and 70+. The XTERRA Scramble Atlanta and the XTERRA Scramble Trail Runs held nationally throughout 2005 are sponsored by Nissan, Gatorade, Paul Mitchell, and Brooks Running Shoes. XTERRA began as an off-road, multi-sport competition on Maui in 1996. From there it has grown into the XTERRA Global Tour including over 90 events in 14 countries with thousands of participants. XTERRA is now the world's fastest growing multi-sport event. XTERRA's philosophy plays into every event initiated and produced: "We are a world community, accessible to anyone with enough heart and determination to defy physical difficulty. Mother Nature is our greatest competitor. We transcend national borders. We are brought together by a shared challenge and we are forged in spirit, friendship and respect." |
