 Ned "The Lung" Overend will be the first inductee into the XTERRA Hall of Fame at tonight's Night of Champions dinner in Makena, Maui. Hundreds of athletes and fans are on Maui for the tenth Nissan Xterra World Championship. They'll gather under the stars on the luau grounds of the Maui Prince Hotel to honor the man who helped shape the sport of XTERRA. Ten years ago Overend toed the line at the first-ever XTERRA race on Maui. In that ten-year span Overend has earned two world titles, two national titles, and numerous championship races - all after retiring from mountain bike racing at age 40. Overend will joins 500 hundred athletes from around the world competing in the 2005 Nissan Xterra World Championship. |
