How to Qualify to Race in Maui

The XTERRA World Championship is maxed out at 800 qualified and "at large" competitors.

PROS

Pro athletes who wish to compete in Maui should mail their credentials to XTERRA at pro@xterraplanet.com.

AMATEURS

US Athletes can qualify for the World Championship four different ways:
1. Finish in one of 47 qualifying spots at any of the four (4) XTERRA Regional Championship Series races or the XTERRA USA Championship.

2. Qualify at the XTERRA Freedom Fest race – designed as a qualifiers for Hawaii residents, non-Hawaii residents may also earn slots at these races.

3. Be selected via our at-large pool by entering online or by mail.
4. Qualify at one of the XTERRA World Tour stops.

AT-LARGE POOL

To enter the at-large pool, you must register and pay for the race. Slots are offered on a first-come, first-served basis until all slots have been filled. Anyone in the at-large pool who is not given a slot to race in Maui will be refunded. Non-U.S. athletes residing in countries hosting XTERRA World Tour races that off qualifying slots to Worlds will not be accepted in the “at large” pool prior to their event.  They should apply directly to their National Organizer for an “at large” slot from any unused qualifying positions.

XTERRA WORLD TOUR

The XTERRA World Tour championship races offer 41 slots to athletes of any nationality at each event.  The XTERRA World Tour includes the XTERRA America Tour Series, XTERRA Asia-Pacific Championship, the XTERRA European Tour and national championship events in 10 other countries or territories.

Note: The XTERRA USA Championship is open to all professional athletes and qualified U.S. resident age group athletes only.

Italy, Czech Republic, Germany, France, Spain, Portugal, Ireland, Greece, England, Denmark, Sweden and Switzerland.

National Championship Events

Other XTERRA World Championship qualifying events include the XTERRA Asia-Pacific Championship and races in Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Brazil, Mexico, Philippines, Guam, Costa Rica, Malaysia and Saipan.

 

Please check our schedule for complete listings.  If a qualified athlete does not accept their earned slot, the slot rolls down to the next qualified athlete.

Type 2 - Qualifier

Qualifying Slots at XTERRA Local Championship Events (Greece, England, Costa Rica, Canmore, Ireland, Great Ocean Road and Abruzzo (IT))
There will be 15 qualfying slots awarded at the XTERRA Local Championship races.  Each age group winner, at the awards presentation, will receive a certificate with a link to register for the World Championship.  We will accept the first 15 who enter.

 

* - This is the top three regardless of the XTERRA Challenged Athlete Category

XTERRA FREEDOM FEST TRIATHLON

This races gives Hawaii residents an another opportunity to qualify for Worlds, however anyone may race and earn Maui slots. The race offers 25 slots to top finishers of any nationality across all age groups. More information on this race.
