RACING ACCOMPLISHMENTS: Three-time Olympic triathlete - finishing 7th in Sydney (racing for France), then 8th in Athens, and 19th in Beijing racing for Switzerland; 2000 ITU Long Distance World Champion. 2004: Won in Saipan, Austria, and Germany, was 7th at XTERRA Czech, and third at XTERRA Italy. Put together the best three races in Europe to claim the XTERRA European Tour Championship. Placed 2nd at XTERRA World Championship. 2005: Won XTERRA Saipan for third straight year, finished third in Temecula, won XTERRA Czech and XTERRA Italy, placed 3rd in Richmond, then won XTERRA Spain which earned him his second straight XTERRA European Tour title. Did not race in Keystone. Placed 6th in Tahoe and finished third in the XTERRA U.S. Pro Points Series. Was 7th in Maui. 2006: Won XTERRA Saipan for fourth straight time and was third at XTERRA France, which he helped organize. Placed 2nd in Maui. 2007: Won XTERRA Saipan for the 5th time, the XTERRA European Championship race in Italy, and was 2nd in Maui. 2008: Won XTERRA European Championship race in Italy for second straight season, finished 9th at XTERRA Czech, 19th at the Olympic triathlon in Beijing, and third at XTERRA France-Mondelieu in Sept. Was 5th in Maui. LAST YEAR: Placed third at XTERRA Italy, fourth at XTERRA European Championship in Austria, and fourth at XTERRA Worlds. THIS YEAR: Placed second at the XTERRA European Championship in Italy, was third at XTERRA France, and won the inaugural XTERRA Switzerland Championship.
MAUI HISTORY
Five top 5 finishes including three runnerups in seven attempts. Placed 4th last year, and 5th in ‘08. In 2007 he headed out onto the run stride for stride with Stoltz until the first big climb when the Caveman pulled away, but he held on for 2nd. In 2006 he was winning the race until the last mile of the run when Hamish Carter passed him, and he held on for second just 19 seconds Olivier behind Carter - the closest runner-up finish in race history. In 2005 he had the 4th best swim time and 8th best bike split to finish 7th overall. Was the runner-up in 2004 when he was the race leader until a mile out of run transition, didn’t race in 2003, and placed 5th in 2002.
