Question and Answer with Renee

What accomplishment are you most proud of:  Qualifying for 2010 Nationals in my first full season, with my first point series race (I'd only done sprint distances prior).

When you're not racing, you like to:  Spend time with my spouse, my number 1 supporter!

What's the craziest experience you've ever had with XTERRA (traveling, racing or training)?
At XTERRA Austin last summer, part of the bike course went through an area also used as a dog park.  A young man was walking his dogs, a golden retriever (Niña) & and an English bull dog (Jay).  The dogs decided it would be great fun to join in the race-not chasing me (otherwise my time would've been faster!), but running ahead of me on the trail.  I kept yelling, "Jay! Niña! Get out of the way! Go home!"  More funny after the race than during it.  But those dogs sure had fun!

What's the best thing about racing? Being in the moment and having to take on whatever the course dishes out that day.

What is the coolest piece of gear you own?  My prescription swimming goggles.  The ability to discern the buoys from the mass of swimmers is nothing short of amazing.

What is your favorite quote or words of wisdom?
Obstacles don't have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don't turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it.  Michael Jordon

Role model/Inspiration/Favorite athlete:  Age grouper-Libby Harrow; Pro-Shonny V.

What do you do when you aren't training/racing?  Besides work, which supports my XTERRA habit, and spending time with my spouse and critters, I'm working with our local mountain bike team (Level X) to broaden into a non-profit organization advocating for and encouraging cycling within the community-all types and for all age groups.

Which 2011 XTERRA races do you plan to attend?
Camp Eagle, South Central Regional, Reveille Peak, Muleshoe, & Magnolia Hill (all in TX); aiming to qualify for 2011 Nationals.

Favorite XTERRA venue:  Camp Eagle (TX)

Dreaded XTERRA venue:  Don't have one yet, but there's got to be one out there somewhere.

Top 3-8 racing accomplishments:
1) Finishing the 2010 National Championship race.
2) Starting my XTERRA adventures at age 50 (a couple of years ago) with virtually no mountain bike or triathlon experience.

What's your favorite aspect of XTERRA?  The venues are awesome, but XTERRA wouldn't happen without the friendly and supportive XTERRA Tribe--staff, volunteers, athletes, family and friends.

Define / describe XTERRA:
The most fun ever!  I wished I'd discovered XTERRA years ago!  Live More!
