Top 3-8 racing accomplishments: Placed 2, 3, and 4th for my age group at Maui XTERRA.  ( also, 5th!)

Birthplace: British Columbia, Canada
Occupation: Positively Chiropractic, Clinic Director, Sports Certified Chiropractor, I own and manage a small practice with 2 other chiropractors, an exercise physiologist/endurance coach, 3 massage therapists, and a certified dietician/sports nutritionist. I mostly enjoy treating patients who present with sports injuries of the multi-sport variety and then of course all their family members and friends.

My husband is Pierre Martel, our fellow XTERRA enthusiast. Valerie is 5 years old and LOVES to swim, bike and run, a great start to an XTERRA future. Madison is 2 and loves anything Valerie does, so perhaps we can keep XTERRA as part of the family tradition!

Question and Answer with Dr. Kathy

What accomplishment are you most proud of:  DEFINITELY the birth of my 2 beautiful, amazingly cute daughters.

When you're not racing, you like to: (if I'm not treating my fellow athletes for ITBand syndrome or for neck pain from endo'ing into the trees..)  I love to spend all my time with my daughters exploring the trails, digging for worms, mastering swimming, and everything else they love to do.

What's the craziest experience you've ever had with XTERRA? Swimming at Maui XTERRA during the race with a gigantic sea turtle directly below me so that I had to swim as shallowly as possible so as not to touch his shell or get near his head with my hand!

What's the best thing about racing?  Feeling like I am moving my body as efficiently as possible while going as fast as I can over hours of challenging terrain.  ESPECIALLY on the bike!

What is the coolest piece of gear you own? My helmet, I've broken so many that I value it the most!

Role model/Inspiration/Favorite athlete: My husband hands down!

Which 2010 XTERRA races do you plan to attend?  Richmond, Virginia, Charlottesville, Virginia, and Rocky Gap, Virginia.

Favorite XTERRA venue:  Richmond, Virginia.

Dreaded XTERRA venue: NONE

What's your favorite aspect of XTERRA?  The friendships that form between the racers which stems from everybody understanding how we all trained so hard to get to that start line. 

Define / describe XTERRA:  ADVENTURE, EXCITEMENT, and COMMITMENT.   Like the perfect relationship!
