Question and Answer with La

What accomplishment are you most proud of:
Being able to podium in several races and qualify for Nationals, all while doing most of my training in warzones (using bikes that weighed as much as I did, working on heartrate zones while sprinting to bunkers, etc…)

When you're not racing, you like to . . .
Ride my bike of course, get off the grid, and chase jackrabbits…

What's the craziest experience you've ever had with XTERRA (traveling, racing or training)?
En route to the Tahoe race, we decided to go run out in the foothills west of Vegas in about 110 degree heat. We came across a little pond which looked very inviting and decided to jump in to cool off. Turns out, it was highly acidic and our skin immediately started itching and burning like crazy. We then had about 2 hours of freaking out, and stripping down, speeding thru town, visiting urgent care center, lost of cold water, cortisone, and Benadryl, and more. It was my worst run/swim/ day ever!

What's the best thing about racing?
The actual XTERRA races! No two courses are alike, and no single course is the same two years in a row. Trails change, circumstances change, luck changes…but XTERRA folks rock at putting on great races and keeping the races challenging and fun!

What is the coolest piece of gear you own?
My S-Works- Finally a bike that fits!! It has taken me on some incredible trails.

What is your favorite quote or words of wisdom?
On the XTERRA courses, I repeatedly have to tell myself "Stop admiring the scenery- this is a race- GO, GO, GO!!"

Inspirations:
Dave Mellor - Age means nothing and HAVE FUN!

What do you do when you aren't training/racing?
Hiking, exploring the desert and mountains, sleeping, and eating more!

Which 2010 XTERRA races do you plan to attend?
Pending rehab from a February knee surgery: Deuces Wild, Four Corners, Beaver Creek, Tahoe, and maybe some other in the South and Southeast. Doing some other racing in the interim (while trying to recruit XTERRA-Virgins to come play with us at XTERRA!).

Favorite XTERRA venue:
Four Corners. It's the only course I've done where my feet aren't still frozen at the finish line!

Dreaded XTERRA venue:
Tahoe City - The uphill run is brutal!

Top racing accomplishments:
That I've finished every race and even podium'd at some though not adequately prepared.

What's your favorite aspect of XTERRA?
Off - Road BABY!! Compared to the few on-road Tri's I've done, I love that we XTERRANS love to get dirty (you won't see us polishing our bikes every 2 seconds like the roadies do.)

Define / describe XTERRA:
Imagine a week full of training, to include a hard tempo run, a long run, an intervals run, a hard interval MTB ride, a climbing MTB ride, a technical ride, a hard swim in ice cold water, squeezing yourself in an unflattering tight rubber suit, peeling it off in a hurry, without galling on your face. Now, throw in hundreds of other folks doing the same thing. Throw in some mud and unexpected weather and lots of friends who you see on this same course year after year as well as some new faces…and voila…XTERRA! It's and addiction!
